Neighbourhood Watch

Nomads Productions have become very adept at producing plays by Yorkshire’s finest playwright Sir Alan Ayckbourn and for their main production this year are staging his 2011 offering “Neighbourhood Watch”. The Telegraph called it “timely and provocative” and it is a play that will appeal on many levels. A brother and sister move into a new house where they hope to enjoy a quiet, peaceful life. Unfortunately subsequent events result in them forming a neighbourhood watch scheme that descends into chaos, confusion and a great deal of comedy. As usual Ayckbourn’s play is touched with poignancy and proves to be another of his subtle comic masterpieces. Only Sir Alan could make a garden gnome the cause of all the fast moving, hilarious action. Come along and kick start the Summer Holidays with a really entertains, comic and thought-provoking evening.
Nomads will be at Norton College on 24th, 25th and 26th July at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from The Milton Rooms, Malton Box Office on 01653 696240.

My Own Show

my-own-show-posterNOMADS Productions will be performing ‘My Own Show’ at the Milton Rooms at 7.30 on the nights of the 22nd of May to the 25th of May.

In the play Fay, host of the TV chat show Frankly Fay, is worried that her career is on the wane – and her private life isn’t up to much either. She is mortified to be re-united on the set of This Is Your Life, with Caroline Pollard, an old school friend she’s been avoiding for years, but Caroline’s bereavement gives her an idea that could rescue her ratings. Before long Caroline (a.k.a. Bollards) is appearing on Frankly Fay and winning the hearts of the daytime TV audience – so much so that very soon she has her own show, Candidly Caroline, and is heading for stardom … The fickle nature of fame, the difficulties faced by older women in the media and the vagaries of friendship are dissected hilariously in this sly and witty comedy.

An Evening of Alan Ayckbourn

NOMADS PRODUCTIONS will stage ‘An Evening of Alan Ayckbourn’ as their June 2012 production. The venue will be the Milton Rooms in Malton on the evenings of Thursday, Friday and Saturday the 21st to the 23rd of June.

Each evening will be based on three of Alan Ayckbourn’s one act plays. They are:

Gosforth’s Fete

Publican Gosforth is running the village gala. Due to a big mistake bad personal news from Milly Carter is publicised over the public-address system. Milly’s fiancé Stewart Stokes becomes extremely aggravated and drowns his sorrows with alcohol. Councillor Mrs Pearce, after the most disorganised greeting is electrocuted by the PA system. Gosforth’s Fete starts like all village fetes do. However it develops into chaos and as things continue to go wrong the play climaxes to a complete disaster.

Between Mouthfuls

Two couples at adjoining restaurant tables realise an unwelcome common bond, assisted by an interactive waiter. Mrs Pearce wonders who Mr Pearce is sleeping with. Polly’s not been frank to Martin (who really doesn’t care at all about Polly’s affair). The waiter is extremely well spoken. There’s clever direction of the alternation between the two sets of conversations. A twist to the plot-line spices the ending.

A Cut in the Rates

A one-act play by Alan Ayckbourn which was written specifically to be performed in a television documentary. The play concerns a woman who becomes uncomfortably embroiled in a dispute between an illusionist and the ghost of his dead wife. When Miss Pickhart visits Ratchet, the illusionist, at his home she discovers some dark, sinister secrets from his past. She is asked for help by Rosalinda’s ghost, who died when they performed the saw-the-woman-in-half trick. This means Miss Pickhart reliving that fateful night – will she also meet a grim death?
